Hnefatafl is also known as The Viking Chess Game. It is a two-player board game where the opposing sides do not have equal numbers. This one of a kind board game is perfect for a unique unforgettable gift or for a board game enthusiast.

The beautifully handcrafted game mat is made of PU-Leather (made to withstand abuse), which can be engraved on the front and buttons up neatly for travel / storage.

New designed game pieces included, which fit nicely into a zippered compartment within the roll-up mat.

Finally, I include instructions for the most common variation of the game, but please note that this game precedes chess by 1400 years... there are a few variations of the game out there.

The leather I use is called bi-cast leather, polyurethane coated split leathers. I use it because it takes a beating better than rawhide, which scratches and smells terrible when engraved, lol. PU coatings are sensitive to waxes and oils. Therefore, classic leather care products should never be used. They sell bottles of PU leather care cleaners, but you only need to clean it every 4-6 months or so.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN.. it is a fast, exciting game. It does require strategy and your play will evolve over time.
