Welcome to the Royal Game of Ur.

I have redesigned the board to be thicker (1.7") and wider (16") as well as offer two board layouts.

I loved making this re-creation, with some creative liberties of course, of one of the oldest board games ever discovered.

The Royal Game of Ur is a game that was played in ancient Sumer and beyond. The earliest game boards of Ur date to about 2400 BCE, but the most famous, from which the game gets its modern name, come from the royal tombs at Ur, in ancient Sumer.

It was a very popular game as boards have been found all over the Middle East and beyond, including Crete, even making it all the way to Sri Lanka! The game was also played in Ancient Egypt as ‘the game of 20 squares’; with game boards in the tomb of Tutankhamen.

The modern game of backgammon is probably related to the Royal Game of Ur and later overtook it in popularity.

My re-creation includes:

- A 16'x6x1.7" solid pine board, with engraved designs and brightly colored. The back of the board has the Royal Ur written in Cuneiform, an image of the Great Ziggurat of UR and space on the right to add any free personalized message

- Two board designs to choose from, a traditional cut or a none cut, rectangle board with extra designs. The choice is yours.

- A rules wood tablet, with the rules on both sides, that replicates the tablet found that helped historians understand the rules. A paper version of the rules is free, and included.

- 14 wood tokens, 7 for each side

- 4, four-sided dice
